What is idiomag?
- What is idiomag?
- idiomag is a high-quality, digital magazine personalized to your interests in music. It keeps you "in the know" about the artists and genres you love, while helping you discover new music. With articles, reviews, galleries and interactive features in a rich magazine format, you can access idiomag whenever and wherever you want it. You can find out more here
- How does idiomag work?
- idiomag aggregates music articles from over 100 different sources, drawing in related media and transforming the resulting article into a rich-media magazine format; and our personalisation system then matches the content to the individual interests of each reader. You can find out more, and check out the video screencast here
- What are your plans for idiomag?
- Step 1: Build a personalised music magazine that gives every reader totally awesome content that is just right for them. Step 2: Expand the content to cover other entertainment areas, and beyond. Step 3: Take over the world... in a very egalitarian, and possibly vegetarian, kind of way.
- Do I have to pay anything to use all this?
- Nope. And we have no plans for charging either. In order to survive and continue improving this awesome personalised magazine, we give you relevant and interesting messages from advertisers.
- Do I need to download anything to use idiomag?
- Nope. Well, you might have to download Adobe's Flash player if you don't already have it - you will be told if you need it.
- Can I use idiomag on multiple computers?
- Yep. Don't forget to logout afterwards if you are using a public computer. Otherwise some mean gangster will certainly mess up your interests, and you'll end up getting incessant Britney Spears reviews.
The Team
- Who is behind idiomag?
- A few chaps and gals who love online media and music, and decided they were fed up with paying £4.95 for a music monthly, which was a mixture of adverts and irrelevant, mainstream articles, and was made by destroying the Amazon rainforest. We have all been involved in technical and/or creative projects before, and every one of us can play at least one musical instrument (guess which of those is a requirement for joining the team...)
- Can I join the team/ get more involved?
- Sure. That would be awesome. Drop an email to Andrew and let us know what you can do. We are always looking for writers and music-lovers who want to help get the word out.
- Can I partner with you?
- Most probably. Drop an email to Andrew explaining what you do, and how you see us working together, and we will get in touch.
- Can I work with you?
- We are always looking for people who love what we do, and have something to contribute. Drop us an email to jobs@idiomag.com
Signup
- How do I signup?
- Go to http://www.idiomag.com/, fill in two of your favourite artists, and hit "Try it now." You will get a demo ("taster") magazine, which will prompt you to sign up. Alternatively if you're a member of one of the many music networks we support, you can put in your network username and we can generate your demo magazine from your network profile.
- Why do I need to sign-up for idiomag?
- When you sign up, we save your profile, and as you read the magazine and rate articles, we evolve your profile so that you get more relevant articles. Otherwise you have to tell us about your interests every time, and we can never really learn enough to give really relevant articles - which sucks.
- I signed up but can't seem to login, what has happened?
- Something may have gone wrong during the signup process. If you look in your "welcome email", you'll see a link to complete the process. If you didn't get a welcome email either, drop an email to support@idiomag.com
- It says "Your account already exists", what has happened?
- Perhaps you have already signed up? If you go to http://www.idiomag.com/forgot/ you can put in your email address and you'll receive an email which will guide you through what to do.
- How can I invite my friends to join idiomag?
- How can you not invite your friends?? When you are reading the magazine, you can click on the "share" or "email to a friend" on the right. If you have the Facebook app you can invite friends by simply selecting them whilst in the idiomag app.
- Why do you need to know my age/gender/location?
- This information just helps us give you a more relevant magazine. We won't sell or share this information with anyone, and we might even wish you happy birthday if we know your birth date.

Interests
- How are articles selected?
- 5 articles are chosen for you everyday you based what we know about your music tastes. idiomag first chooses articles about artists which we definitely know you're interested in, it then moves on to related artists and then finally fills any remaining article-slots with articles we predict you will like based on your genre interests.
- How do I change what articles I receive?
- Because each article is chosen for you based on your music interests, the best way to change which articles you receive is to adapt your music tastes! You can do this by clicking the Love or Ban buttons in the magazine, or in your Interest page by adding/removing Genres or Artists from your interest lists.
- How can I change my favorite artists?
- On your Interests page, click on "Your Artist List". You can then add artists to either the Love or Hate list, or remove existing artists by clicking on the cross next-to their name.
- How can I change my music tastes?
- On your Interests page, click on "Your Music Cloud". You can then add/edit each Genre by selecting it from the dropdown list and choosing the degree to-which you like it.
- What happens when I update my interests?
- When you update your interests, you will see the changes immediately on your Interests page. Also you will see the changes reflected in the articles you receive the next day.
- Why doesn't my magazine update immediately?
- idiomag is a daily magazine, so once you have changed your interests it will affect the choice of articles for the next day.
- I don't have any new articles today, what has happened?
- Sometimes, particularly if you have very specific music tastes, we don't have any relevant articles for you (after all, new music doesn't release everyday!). The best thing to do is check back again the next day to see if new articles have arrived. If this happens several days in a row, drop an email to support@idiomag.com
- I keep getting irrelevant articles, what can I do?
- Check to make sure that we know your music tastes correctly by checking your Interests page. If you still receive irrelevant articles, drop an email to support@idiomag.com
- Can I ban certain artists from my magazine?
- Definitely, simply click the Ban button at the bottom of the article, or add the artist to your Hate list.
Content
- What types of music do you have?
- idiomag covers pretty much all kinds of music. We have plenty of articles every week about Rock, Indie, Acoustic, Pop, Punk, Metal, Hip-Hop, Rap, and Electronica, as well as several contributors for smaller genres such as Jazz, Classic Rock, House, Industrial and Classical. We're always working to add more content sources and broaden our music coverage, so if we don't yet have millions of articles in your favorite genre, we soon will!
- How many articles will I get?
- Everyday you'll receive 5 fresh articles about the music in which you are interested.
- How are images/videos/mp3s chosen?
- idiomag aggregates articles from a wide variety of sources, and for each one it intelligently discovers which artist (and perhaps album) the article is about. It then goes off and collects relevant images, videos and mp3s.
- What is the discovery section?
- The discovery section is provided at the bottom of the last page for each article, and provides you with key links to the artist's Biography, Myspace page and official homepage.
- Why is this article wrongly categorized? How can I change this?
- If you find that idiomag has accidentally categorized an article, we'd really appreciate it if you drop an email to support@idiomag.com
